Impact of KVK Khowai during last 5 year (2019- 20 to 2023- 24)
- Area coverage increased under potential field crops (Rice, Maize, Blackgram, Mustard, Sesamum, Millet) with KVK intervention > 6000 ha and area expansion 8 %
- Horticultural crops (Tomato, Chilli, Potato, cucurbits, brinjal, Pineapple, Mango) 337 ha and area expansion 5%
- Varietal replacement through Introduction of New Varieties: Rice (Gomoti, Tripura Chikon, Tripura Nirog, Tripura Hakuchuk-2), Maize (HQPM series), Blackgram (Tripura Mush Kolai-1), Mustard (NRC-HB-101), Sesamum (Tripura Siphing), Millet (SIA 3159), Tomato (Arka Rakshak, Arka Samrat), Chilli (Arka Gagan), Potato (Kufri Jyoti, Kufri Himalini, True Potato Seed TPS), Pineapple (Kew and Queen), Brinjal (Shingnath, Bholanath), Mango (Amrapalli, Himsagar).
- Reduction of pest and disease incidence: Paddy: Yellow stem borer (30%), Brinjal: Shoot & Fruit borer (50%), Cucurbits: Melon fly (70%), Chilli: Chilli leaf curl (15%), Late blight of potato (25%)
- Reduced 6.5% post harvest losses for fruits and vegetables.
- Breeds: Pig: Local to White Yorkshire & Landraces (Breed replacement: 30%, Reduction of mortality %: 20); Poultry: Local to Kuroiler (Breed replacement: 10%, Reduction of mortality %: 10); Duck: Local to Khaki Campbell/Indian runner (Breed replacement: 2%, Reduction of mortality %: 2); Cattle: Local to HF cross/Jersey (Breed replacement: 5%, Reduction of mortality %: 5).
- Fish: Conventional to IMC/ Composite fish farming 500 ha and area expansion 8%.
Impact of the externally funded project/programme- Mobilized an amount of Rs. 201.048 lakhs
- Ninety Seven nos of Pond based IFS models are developed, 156 nos. of micro-enterprises, 78 SHGs, 10 nos of user groups are developed under the Project Integrated Watershed Development Programme (IWMP). (Rs. 67.39 lakhs).
- Total 550 ha area is brought under SRI in Paddy & Rice-Pulse & Rice-Maize based cropping systems are introduced under the Project National Food Security Mission (Rs.13.52 lakhs).
- Total 122 ha area is brought under life saving irrigation during the Rabi Season in the NICRA adopted villages through Climate Smart Technologies under the Project TDC-NICRA Programme during the period from 2011-2021. (Rs. 15.81 lakhs).
- Validated & Popularized Bio-intensive IPM modules for 7 Crops (Rice, Brinjal, Bitter Gourd, Ridge Gourd, Okra, Tomato, Chilli under the Project Validation of IPM Modules for important horticultural crop pests of NEH Region (11.40 lakhs) under ICAR- NCIPM project.
- Seven numbers of Entrepreneurs were developed under the Skill Development Programme for Rural Women funded by North East Transmission Company under CSR Activity. (18.37 Lakhs).
- Nine nos. of IFS models are developed under the NEH component of ICAR-VPKAS (6.00 Lakh).
- Establishment of nutritional garden (covering 22 nos. villages and 240 beneficiaries) with an area of 5 ha. (4.80 lakhs).
- 109 numbers of farmers doubled their income under the Programme Pilot Project on Doubling of Farmers Income by 2022.
- 20 ha area is brought under organic farming is under the Project PKVY (3.80 lakhs).
- 10 numbers of Successful farmers & farm women are practicing Natural Farming under the project out-scaling of Natural Farming through the KVK (8 lakhs).
- Total 250 numbers of drone demonstrations has been conducted covering 3546 nos. of beneficiaries by KVK Khowai. (17.50 lakhs)
- Total 51 ha area with 1115 nos. of farmers is brought under the HYV of Potato under the ICAR- IARI NEH Component.
- Validated and calibrated parameters for Manual incubator for egg hatching and popularized it. Many rural youths used to prepare and sell to other farmers under the Project Technology Assessment & Refinement under ATMA (5.42 Lakhs).
- Trained migrant workers- 72 nos. under BADP programme funded by DM & Collector, Khowai district. (Rs. 1.96 lakhs).
- Certified & Foundation Seed Production of paddy crop was done under Registered Seed Grower Programme in Convergence with the Deptt. of Agriculture, Govt. of Tripura.
- Capacity building on Pig rearing and Management and input distributed under ICAR- IVRI programme for backward and poor farmers were done. 1 pair of piglets, feeds, medicines was provided to the 30 nos. of beneficiaries under the project.
- Entry Point activity of the Pre-project Implementation phase has been initiated under the project spring shed based watershed development programme (0.5 lakhs) funded by NABARD.
- For demonstration of Raised and Sunken bed technology (0.115 lakhs) funded by NABARD.
- Fifty nos. of self financed existing dealers/retailers were trained for 12 days to deal pesticides which were mobilized by NIHPM: (Rs. 3.724 Lakhs).
- Twenty Nine nos. of self financed existing dealers/retailers trained for 15 days to deal fertilizers which were mobilized by MANAGE: (Rs. 3.60 lakhs).
- Sixty five nos. of Rural Youths were training through three numbers of long term (more than 200 hours) skill development training programme (Animal Health Worker-1 no., Nursery Worker-2 nos.) under RKVY funded by ASCI (Rs. 9.237 lakhs).
- Organized 7 nos. of skill development training under ODOP/ Non ODOP funded by DIC under the scheme PMFME coving 175 nos. of beneficiaries (Rs. 2.642 lakhs).
- Forty Seven women farmers were trained through Hands on training on hygienic Sheedal and dry fish production sponsored by TRLM (Rs. 0.65 lakh).
- Organized 8 nos. of Skill Training on Rural Youth (STRY) covering 133 beneficiaries sponsored by MANAGE (Rs.3.36 lakhs).
- Setting of model spices garden at two nos. of Schools sponsored by Spice Board of India (Rs. 3.25 lakhs).
Salient Achievements
- Start-ups (Skilled training based): 119 nos. (12 nos. vermicompost based, 5 nos. honey based, 10 nos. mushroom based, 1 no. millet based, 8 nos. food processing and value addition, 7 nos. nursery & floriculture based, 10 no. fishery based, 26 nos. livestock based, 18 nos. Natural farming input based, 22 nos. seed production based)
- No. of technology shared with the state department: Ten nos. of assessed/refined/proven technologies were submitted to different district level life departments.
- Resource generation:
- Upto, 2023-24 KVK Khowai is having Rs. 14.62 lakhs net balance under the revolving fund(Generated through the selling of Products from different Units of KVK viz. Seed & Planting materials, Livestock & Fisheries, Bio-Products & Value added products.)
- Revenue generation: Upto 2023- 24 KVK Khowai is having Rs. 3.05 lakhs net balance generated through different sources viz., License fees/ Rents of infrastructure for sponsored training; Guest House rent; Farmer’s Hostel rent; Sale of damaged assets and Other receipts etc.
- Registered 5 nos. of crop varieties under PPV & FR Authority, New Delhi and allotted 06 IC nos. from NBPGR New Delhi.
- Formation of Soil Health Scout as an Innovative Extension Methodology, which is formed in 17 numbers of villages of Khowai district of Tripura.
- Promoted and demonstrated low cost pheromone traps as a component of integrated pest management module against shoot and fruit borer of brinjals among the 396 farmers covering 82 ha area.
- Validated & Calibrated Handmade Egg hatching incubator also demonstrated & distributed 47 numbers of incubators throughout the district.
- Demonstrated carps under different stocks & harvesting system in an area of 42 ha.
- Rain Water Harvesting and Development of Pond Based Farming System in different adopted Villages of Khowai district of Tripura.
- Establishment of Value Chain of Sesamum, Black Gram, Toria, Paddy at East RC Ghat Village of Khowai District of Tripura in Collaboration with the ICAR Tripura RC for NEH Region Tripura Centre and College of Agriculture, Tripura.
- Scientific cultivation of mushroom: 42 entrepreneurs developed through establishment of spawn production laboratory.
- Area covered under solar nano pump technology (105 ha), zero tillage (120 ha), SRI (500 ha), natural farming (20 ha), ridge and furrow irrigation in maize (80 ha), pond based IFS (110 nos.)
- Participatory Seed Production on Paddy, Sesamum, Black Gram, Toria, Dhaincha was conducted in collaboration with the ICAR Tripura Centre & the seeds were sold to the Director of Agriculture, Govt of Mizoram, ICAR Tripura Centre and others.
- MoU signed between KVK Khowai & TRLM, Khowai on 3rd July, 2023 at DM & Collector Chamber for Women Empowerment & Livelihood security at household level
- KVK, Khowai was associated with the evaluation of advance breeding lines of Paddy which was further released (4 varieties) by the CVRC through ICAR Tripura Centre.
- Demonstration & establishment of number of Intensive Integrated Farming System model at KVK and in farmer’s field.
- KVK developed Raised and Shanken Bed Technology & Rainwater Harvesting Method at KVK demonstration unit.
- Climate Smart Village was developed under NICRA- TDC Project.
- Mass Production of vermicompost at KVK and at different villages was done.
- Emphasis was given in Soil & Plant Health Management including beekeeping for better pollination in crops.
- Tailoring training was provided to improve livelihood of rural youths and women farmers.
- Linkage was established with the Gramin Mausam Sewa to provide timely Weather forecasting as well as to provide need based recommendation in Agriculture & allied sectors.
- Document on District Contingency Planning was prepared which was published in the Website of ICAR Website.
- Formed 62 Farmers Clubs covering one for each village out of 121 villages of Khowai.
- Handholding of farmers during COVID- 19 pandemic- reached 1292 farmers and other stakeholders with specific advisories in local languages through telephone, Watsapp, SMSs, CSC and video call etc.
- Trained migrant workers under BADP programme funded by DM & Collector, Khowai district. Provided 5000 nos of cotton mask to the farmers and other stakeholders through home delivery system at DFI adopted village.
- 9142 farmers registered under Kisan Sarathi portal, a total of 26 advisories were sent covering a total of 43,678 nos of farmers.
- Participatory Seed Production on Paddy, Sesamum, Black Gram, Toria, Dhaincha, and millets was conducted in collaboration with the ICAR Tripura Centre & the seeds were sold to the Director of Agriculture, Govt of Mizoram, ICAR Tripura Centre and others.
- By Farming linkages with the other stakeholders like TRLM, Organic farm produce stall formed by Deptt of Agriculture & FW (Govt of Tripura); contract farming of TPS tuber let seed production in collaboration with Deptt of Horticulture & SC, Govt of Tripura.
- Mushroom spawns produced by the KVK beneficiaries are sold to the Deptt. of A & FW under different programmes.
- Seeds, vegetables, mushroom; dairy based products were door- door marketed by the members of different farmers club during the COVID- 19 lockdown period by maintaining guidelines issued by Govt of India.
- Some of the entrepreneurs promoted by KVK Khowai are using social media (facebook, watsapp) for marketing of their produced.
- On an average, 5677 nos/ year footfalls of farmers and other stakeholder were realized during the past five years.
